Hand Surgery

Mr Andrew Sanders has trained under the guidance of New Zealand’s leading hand surgeons throughout the country. He has gained further subspecialty training with a 12 month fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the world renowned Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit in Glasgow, Scotland, and a further 12 month fellowship in peripheral nerve surgery in the Birmingham Hand Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

Conditions treated include:

Trauma

Repair of fractures, tendon injuries, and other acute hand trauma.

Trigger finger 

A condition where a finger locks or catches due to inflamed tendons; treated with surgery if necessary.

Carpal tunnel syndrome 

Compression of the median nerve in the wrist, causing pain or numbness; often relieved with surgical decompression.

Cubital tunnel syndrome 

Ulnar nerve compression at the elbow, resulting in tingling or weakness in the hand.

De Quervain’s tenosynovitis 

Inflammation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist; treated through release surgery when conservative options fail.

Ganglion

Removal of fluid-filled cysts that commonly appear near joints or tendons in the hand or wrist.

Thumb arthritis 

Surgical treatment for painful arthritis at the base of the thumb, often affecting grip strength.

Dupuytren’s disease 

Release of thickened tissue in the palm that causes fingers to curl inward.
