Referrals

Please talk to your primary healthcare provider (GP, physiotherapist, hand therapist, other doctor) to be referred to Mr Andrew Sanders. Clinic appointments, investigations, or any subsequent surgery may be covered by ACC, your health insurance, or self funded.

What to bring to your clinic appointment

  • Letters from your healthcare provider and therapists
  • Results of any previous investigations or location they were done
  • List of medical problems and current medications
  • Your insurance details, Southern Cross membership number or ACC documentation if related to an injury


You are welcome to bring a friend, partner or family member into your consultation for support.

Day of Surgery – Local anaesthetic only

  • Please arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled procedure
  • You can eat and drink as normal
  • You will need someone to drive you home from your procedure
  • A prescription can be emailed to your pharmacy for any pain relief or antibiotics that may be required

Day of Surgery – Regional block / Sedation / General anaesthetic

  • You will be contacted by the hospital a few days before the date of surgery to confirm arrival time and when to stop eating and drinking.
  • You must not eat or drink for 6 hours before any surgery requiring regional blocks, sedation, or general anaesthetic to ensure a safe anaesthetic. A small amount of water is usually allowed up until 2 hours before surgery.
  • Mr Andrew Sanders and the anaesthetist will see you before surgery to answer any final questions and complete consent form.
  • If you are having day stay surgery, you will need someone to drive you home after the surgery and stay with you for the first night.

Post surgical instructions will be given after your surgery. Please elevate wounds to prevent bleeding or swelling, and keep your dressings dry.
